Arvind Kejriwal
National News: The attack on Chief Minister Rekha Gupta in Delhi shocked political circles. Arvind Kejriwal said disagreements and protests are natural in a democracy but there is no space for violence. He hoped police will act swiftly and punish the guilty. AAP Delhi president Saurabh Bharadwaj condemned the act, calling it an insult to democracy. He recalled how Mahatma Gandhi had taught India that violence only weakens society. He questioned political forces who encourage such actions and demanded unity against such behavior.
Bharadwaj explained that violence is not only about attacking a leader. He said when students, teachers, or farmers face police brutality while asking for rights, that too is violence. He insisted only courts have the right to punish citizens.
He reminded how Kejriwal himself was attacked in the past during rallies and campaigns. At that time, Bharatiya Janata Party leaders often justified those incidents, saying people were angry. He urged BJP not to defend violence and learn from mistakes.
Bharadwaj admitted that citizens may be upset with leaders, but anger does not allow attacks. He said AAP stands with Rekha Gupta despite political rivalry. Violence, he added, is wrong regardless of party, and all parties must condemn such acts.
Leader of Opposition Atishi also termed the attack “shameful.” She urged Delhi Police to investigate quickly and punish the attacker. AAP spokesperson Anurag Dhanda said people’s frustration cannot turn into violence, and police must ensure such incidents never repeat again.
AAP leaders together made it clear that democracy cannot survive if violence is tolerated. They prayed for Rekha Gupta’s health and safety. The message was loud and clear: political fights may continue, but India’s democracy rejects violence in any form.
